Practical Wisdom

Last fall we found a buyer for our house.   We had to move somewhere.   I sat in the sweat lodge one afternoon trying to get advice from the spirits about where to move.  Every time I asked about it, I heard a grasshopper fly by.  Later that day, once bounced off my face.  Charlie thought the grasshoppers were about growth.  I was reminded of the old TV show, Kung Fu, in which the old monk referred to the novice as “grasshopper.”  Maybe it was about me being a beginner in a new stage of spiritual growth.  The spirits apparently thought this was relevant.
The sale progressed.  I went out to Padre Canyon and told the spirits Charlie and I could really use some guidance.

I started to walk.  It was deeply peaceful.  The area was noticeable for the sameness of the small juniper trees, grasses, and tumbleweeds; every place looked the same as every other.  A flock of ravens flew about, calling and carrying on, and one hovered over my head.  “Wisdom,” it said, “practical wisdom.”  This was how I should handle my affairs right now.  The message from the land was that every place is the same, because Creator’s love is everywhere.
