Last
fall the stone getter, instead of placing one initial stone in the pit,
scattered three of them in a line from southeast to northwest. Usually the direction of the first stone
tells us what kind of medicine we may expect to receive during the lodge, so we
didn’t know how to interpret this. When
the sweat was done, we emerged under the late evening sky to observe, like diamonds,
the moon and two planets in a line above us from southeast to northwest. We were awed at this evidence that all things
harmonize as one, and wondered why we were being shown this.
Two
weeks ago, in the first round when we pray prayers of gratitude and acceptance,
we observed in the stones, three glowing red spots next to each other, aligned
southeast to northwest. In a later round,
three small stones lined up in the pit just that way. In last Friday’s lodge, it happened again –
three of the Grandmothers and Grandfathers lining up southeast to northwest. I’ve been trying to figure this out for some
time now. I think I haven’t been ready
to understand it. Finally I got a clear
impression that this is somehow about my being wiser and more capable than I
should be, presumably propped up the spirits.
If this is true, I assume it’s for a good reason.
One
member said the three stones reminded her of a beloved mentor who passed away a
year ago. Lately I have felt an invitation from the
stones to borrow their kindness, wisdom, and strength, so I think we are
picking up something similar. Experience
has shown me I have little to offer apart from Creator, so I want to accept
this.
